The soup sounds great. Can you buy “Bills Best Chik Nish seasoning” in the local Grocery store?

do you add dry rice or cooked rice

Bill’s Best seasonings can be found at most health food stores, including Weimar Market. If using dry rice, add at begining. If using cooked rice, add in the last 10 min, otherwise it will get overcooked.

Are you able to substitute rice for barley?
6 Ceidre Nov 4, 2013, 9:59 PM PST
What does it mean place all ingredients in a kettle - do you mean a saucepan? Does Bill’s Best seasoning contain MSG?

Nadine:Yes—you can substitute in the world of cooking! Whole barley would be great.
Ceidre: You can put it all in a large soup pot (saucepans are smaller) and make your own seasoning that’s like the one used here. Use about 1/2 C nutritional yeast (base), add 1/2 t each sea salt, garlic powder if you haven’t already added garlic to the pot, onion powder & 2 T of herbs like Italian seasoning or tarragon, 1/4 t bell pepper flakes.
Note that this seasoning combo can also be used to season tofu sauteed for breakfast scrambles to which I also add fresh basil, spinach, olives, tomatoes, green onions, etc…Have some fun being creative!

How do I share this page to someone by email or some other media. In fact, I’d like to store it by email or some other media other than cut and paste.

Great recipe, one might do well to lower the amount of salt in it.
