Is ginger healthful in a regular diet? I was under the impression that it was an irritant to be avoided. I do understand that it has valid medicinal properties.

To answer Laura’s question, all of these ingredients can be purchased at most major grocery stores. Two ingredients may require a trip to a natural healthfood type store and that is the Bragg’s Liquid Aminos and the Chik Nish Seasoning.  Good luck!

Because ginger has been used so extensively for centuries, it is on the US FDAâ??s Generally Recognized As Safe list.  Most people are able to tolerate the amount found in a normal, healthful diet.  That being said though, there are some people that have adverse reactions to it, including contact dermatitis, GI distress, heartburn, and increased bleeding.  As such, it is contra-indicated for anyone with bleeding conditions, ulcers, or gallstones.

You mentioned the medicinal properties of ginger.  Itâ??s most known medicinal quality is in preventing nausea.  However, ginger is also very effective as a treatment for helicobacter pylori, and this may help reduce the incidence of gastric cancer.  Ginger is toxic to cancer cells in general, and helps prevent cancer by inhibiting cell proliferation.  As an anti-inflammatory, ginger has been shown to have many properties similar to non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs, and has been shown to help those with osteoarthritis of the knee.

This recipe turned out great today. I just used Trader Joe’s Organic Sprouted fresh Tofu. I used fresh grated ginger also. I used a tbsp of raw brown sugar for sweetener.
