How to care for a blister on the back of foot for someone who is a diabetic

Blisters may form when the skin has been damaged by friction or rubbing. Both blisters and callouses can lead to more serious complications, such as foot ulceration and infection, particularly when sensation or circulation is impaired, as in the case of diabetes. It is important to get good shoes and socks to prevent this from happening again.

Meanwhile, try to protect the blister with soft padding like moleskin. Over time, it should be reabsorbed, and the skin will eventually slough off on it’s own.

If the blister has already leaked, keep the foot dry and clean and apply over the counter antibiotic ointment along the open skin until it has sufficiently dried and healed.

A diet consisting of whole plant foods will aid in the healing process.
