This is very interesting. Thank you. I am 80 years young. My question is : What is PRE diabetes? What is the difference (if any)  between Type 2 or Pre diabetes?  I was told several years ago that I had Diabetes—-      blood glucose was 101 (before surgery)  and was put on Metformin. Then 2 years ago I was told because I have kept the blood glucose numbers down below 124 fasting ( usually around 100 or less)  and below 140 after meals ( usually below 110)... that I have PRE diabetes and no longer need to take Metformin. So I stopped taking it and just use the same plan for eating as follows.  I am not total vegetarian, do eat some fish, ( salmon, trout, talapia,, etc. with scales & fins)  some, at times, chicken, turkey, occasionally indulge the temptation to eat a small piece of red meat..beef. venison, buffalo, NO PORK, etc. I do some exercise, like to work in my yard in good weather, ride my exercise bike occasionally, should do it more but don’t.  if you will please clear this up for me because I do not undrstand all of this. Thank you.    Dixie Lowry

I have an irritation on the right upper middle of my back whenever I eat what is not good for my system. Sometimes I thought it is the spleen reaction. If I maintain vegetarian it disappears, when I loose control of appetite, it rings the bell. Am 63, weight 101, BP 180, How can I improve?

I get hot and perspire a lot about 1 hour aftereating when I take metformin. Bloats a lot too and nauseous just for an hour or so. is it the reaction from metformin?

Dixie, I do not know all the details of your questions, what in particular do feel that you do not understand? Is it the pre-diabetes or the diet or what could be done better and how? I may not have all the answers at this time, nor am I someone who is working for NEWSTART but I looked up an article that I thought might help answer some of your questions: http://www.ucheepines.org/diabetes-revolutionary-treatment/

I have also worked at a lifestyle center that incorporates the same principles of health and if you look into the meaning of that acronym NEWSTART and apply what best you can, you will see wonderful results Lord-willing. At the same time it is best to be educated in how best to make the changes and what changes to make…it sounds to me like that 3-day program they were talking about was made just for you!  Many blessings to you :)

Ok, I just read your post over again Dixie, and realize that you were asking if you were actually pre-diabetic or not and what is (if there is) the diff. As compared to diabetes…that is a very good question…I will try to see what information I can find for you. It’s best to talk with a Physician who knows what other factors that may be involved, but I will still look up this information for you if someone else hasn’t already helped you.

I wish I could edit my comments…according to what you have shared and what I understand your blood sugars are almost always below 100 fasting and below 110 after meals! That is good! But how often do they run higher and does it happen for more than 2 or 3 days in a row? And will look up more information to confirm…
